A good friend of ours asked me lately if I could take some pictures of trains and railroads for her son’s room because he absolutely loves them. I don’t think she knew what she was starting. I’ve been slightly obsessed with taking railroad pictures ever since and I now have plenty for her to choose from. Heading home to Colorado over Memorial Day weekend definitely helped with that. The San Luis Valley has two historical railroads that are actually pretty famous: the San Luis & Rio Grande Railroad and the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. The ones shown here are mostly from the San Luis & Rio Grande Railroad, the railroad that my mom’s brother is a conductor on. On the way back from the sand dunes, we stopped by a train yard where they had a bunch of old, abandoned engines. I was running around in brightly colored board shorts and flip flops taking pictures like crazy. At one point my foot sunk into a large pile of ash. It was pretty bad.
