After doing engagement photos and wedding formals for Kim and Greg, I was really excited to do their wedding photos and see them actually tie the knot. I had already gotten to know all of the siblings, so I felt more like a guest than a photographer at times (except for the 40-pound bag of camera equipment I was carrying, of course).
The wedding was held at the iconic Salt Lake City Temple on Temple Square which is also where we had done their wedding formals session just two weeks earlier.
Both families are from the Salt Lake City area, so there was quite a turnout. We actually had a difficult time fitting everyone on the stairs for the big family photos.
One of the great things about having done wedding formals already was that there wasn’t nearly as much for us to do after the ceremony as far as posed photos. After doing all the traditional family and group photos on the steps, I took the bride and groom with me to get a few shots on their own, and then we all went over to the wedding luncheon at the Lion House.
The Lion House was a great venue for the luncheon (fantastic pot pie), and the speeches were about the best I’ve ever heard: sweet, heartfelt, and hilarious. The photo of Kim and Greg at the microphone below basically sums up how fun it was.
The reception later that evening was held at a private residence in Millcreek that was absolutely gorgeous. It had a creek running through the property (THE Millcreek, I assume), huge trees, hanging lights, a disco ball, and lots of room for guests.
One especially fun fact about Kim and Greg is that they both love dinosaurs which made for some unique additions to their wedding details. Greg was wearing dinosaur socks (photo proof below), and their wedding cakes even featured little triceratops cake toppers. Triceratoppers, if you will.
The whole party ended with a 100-person dance march through the trees and a first dance that involved all of the kids wrapping ribbon around the happy couple.
It was a fun tradition and a great way to end the day.
Greg and Kim make a pretty amazing couple, and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to capture their special day!
